Base Sizes - I've read your comments in the discussion thread and thought it was about time I put the guidelines together. Malcolm intimated that the base sizes we've stipulated for previous builds should be reviewed for this build. Well, the base size normally stipulated is 16" x 12". If someone decides to depict a model of a towing vehicle and caravan based on the current scale Airfix use for the 'Aardman' themed kits, then the base size is inadequate. Therefore, I think a base size of 24" x 12" should be the maximum base size allowed and this should give everyone a reasonable amount of leeway in their builds. There was also a comment about height restriction, well, apart from foliage used as a backdrop, I doubt that anyone will be planning anything taller than 12", so let's be sensible eh?
Vehicles - I'd like to use the Airfix 'Aardman' kits once again which are the A35 van, Landrover, Tractor and the Motorcycle as the motive power. Caravans, tents and other items which you may wish to throw into the mix are to be at your discretion.
Figures - Any of the Airfix 'Aardman' figures may be used either as depicted in the kit or converted.
How many entries per member? - I'm going to limit the builds to two per member, there are a couple of reasons for this decision. The main reason is the longevity of the SIG. We've become known for our portrayal of the Airfix 'Aardman' series of models and they're fast becoming scarce. I'm lucky enough to have a reasonable stash of these kits but even that is limited. So, limiting the builds is one way of ensuring that we have sufficient kits for future builds.
We also need to diversify. Last year we saw the Bedford builds which was very popular. This is a way to bring new members into the SIG, not everyone wants to build the 'Aardman' kits but they like the idea of the 'Beyond the box' theme. With this in mind, we will have a diversity build for 2012 and hopefully we can split the display space accordingly. Pat has an idea for a build and I'm sure we'll hear from him soon.
So, there you have it. Start date for the build is December 25th, closing date for the build will be SMW. I'm looking forward to the 2012 build, lots of ideas floating around in my head, and I'm sure we'll have a stunning display once again.
