A notice for all members of the 'Beyond the Box' SIG
For the past 6 years, the 'Beyond the Box' SIG has displayed at SMW. The display has been very popular with members and visitors alike ... and it seems that Airfix also like what we do. I've been asked by Dale Luckhurst, Humbrol Product Manager if members of the SIG would like to have their models featured in a proposed display at Margate in Kent, the home of the Hornby Visitor Centre. If the proposed display is given the go ahead, they would require approximately 20 or more models for a temporary display lasting from between 6 - 12 months. The area in the visitor centre where the proposed display would be placed has not yet been finalised, when it is ready, Dale will contact me again with further information.
This is your chance to have your models viewed by visitors to the centre. If the reaction to visitors at SMW is anything to go by, then this display will be a certain success. If you would like your models to be featured in the proposed display, please contact me in the first instance via email nick.modeller@btopenworld.com including a phone number if possible together with a brief description of your model(s), a photograph of the model(s) and how many you would be prepared to have on display.
I feel this is an honour for the IPMS and certainly an honour for the 'Beyond the Box' SIG. I look forward to hearing from you.

I have been in contact with Airfix regarding the proposed display at their visitor centre at Margate. I will contact you all personally but I would like to ask that if you are prepared to allow any of the models which have been built over the past six years to be loaned to Airfix for the display, then they should be brought to SMW 2011. Each model should be boxed securely and labelled with your name and the model title. If possible, a photograph of each model should be emailed to me with a brief description of each model, this will be passed to Airfix. The models will be transported to Margate by the display team at SMW and then unpacked and placed on display at the visitor centre. Once the display is up and running, I'll liaise with Airfix for a group visit to the display.
Airfix have asked for approximately 30 models to be placed on display for a period of twelve months, I'll be sending at least three of mine.

Many thanks to those of you who have replied to my personal email regarding loaning builds for the display at the Margate Visitor Centre. If you have not yet replied I really need to know ASAP if you're prepared to loan some of your builds for the display.

Sorting out the builds for Airfix today. I have 4 of my own to pack plus two others. I have had a further email from Darrell Burge of Airfix / Humbrol confirming that the models will be safely transported from SMW to Margate after the show. For those of you who have agreed to loan some of your builds, many thanks and I think the display will be well worth visiting.

I've been doing that myself Nick, running repairs too I've managed to find a suitable box but as Ant has elluded to, accomodating the base is a little challenging, but I think I've got a solution in my case - th ebox is plenty big enough. It's a bit of an outside/off the wall suggestion, but could some builds be combined into the same transport box at SMW? Rich

I was leaving the types of boxes used for transport up to the individual Rich, but I'm sure we could sort something out with Airfix.

The Airfix van is currently making it's way to Margate from SMW with several models on board including a selection from the recent build themes of the 'Olympics', 'Contraptions', 'Pimp my Ride', 'Films and TV' and lots more. I had a chat with Darrell Burge of Airfix over the weekend and he has informed me that the exhibition at the Hornby Visitor Centre in Margate should be completed towards February / March 2012. The models will have their own labels which should include build title and author. Once the exhibition is ready for viewing, Darrell will inform me and we can then organise a day out at the centre and probably continue to RAF Manston. My thanks to everyone who has loaned models for the exhibition which should ultimately bring the 'Beyond the Box' SIG into the limelight and possibly enlarge our fan base somewhat!

Quick update on the display at the Hornby Visitor Centre at Margate. I've had an email from Darrell Burge and the display should hopefully be up and running by the end of March. Darrell has assured me that the exhibits are stored safely.

OK Folks, we finally made it to Margate and popped into the Hornby visitor centre. My thanks to all those members who have contributed to the SIG displays over the past 7 years and special thanks and congratulations to those members who now have their work on display. If you're in the Margate area at some point in the summer, drop into the visitor centre. Here's a quick look at what's on display: www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.391078957613969&type=1
