A challenge from the members of the 1/24 Truck Forum: www.24thscalemodeltruckforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=949.0 to feature the Landrover and a contraption. To view the forum you will have to register, but it's free and takes just a couple of minutes. If you're interested in truck modelling, why not come and have a look.

Following a bit of banter on the 1/24th Truck Model Forum, I sort of talked myself into building a Paris / Dakar racer ... www.ajeepthing.com/jeep-blog/land-range-rover/dakar-rover-for-sale-on-ebay-really-its-a-whole-race-team/2006/ ... well, something similar anyway. This is what we're starting with ... I test fitted a few bits and pieces on the Landrover. One of the problems I had was with the front axles, the pins for the wheels just don't fit the hubs, but a few minutes with a file soon sorted that problem. Here's a couple of shots of the test fit ... ... the front view shows a definite need for wheel arch extensions, and before anyone says the wheels are wrong, they're from the 1 ton Landrover which had six studs. The front view also shows the need for a heavy duty bumper and winch and also a sump guard, more on that later. Here's the rear view ... ... the rear bumper is also in need of a bit of work, so I'm going to do a spot of research on t'interweb. I'll also have to construct a carrier for the spare tyres, but that will be designed when I build the roll cage. So, challenge on.

I was in the workshop this morning intending to restart this build, but the knob next door is intent on burning his Christmas waste which includes plastic and cardboard, the smell is awfull.

I spent the time in the workshop today drilling, filing and making alterations to the running gear. Actually, in order to place the replacement wheels on the ride I've had to redesign the axles slightly ... ... the original front wheels are fitted with metal pins from the rear of the stubs, the new wheels will have to be fitted to different diameter plastic road ... ... I've still got to work out how to attach the wheels to the new axles but it shouldn't be too much of a problem. The new wheels will be white, the colour of the Landrover is not yet decided. Oh, I may just have found a driver ...
