Just been to visit my sister in Manchester, her partner Joe works as a volunteer on community radio in Salford www.salfordcityradio.org/ I have a plan, we'll have an outside broadcast team, but it will be radio, not television. Bitzer will be the interviewer (Joe you're about to be immortalized as a character from Shaun the Sheep), the three pigs will be the crew, other characters may be involved, more news on this build shortly.

Whilst displaying with the 'Beyond the Box' SIG at the East Midlands Model Railway show today, I've started on the Outside Broadcast Van. The main chassis and body are just about at the planning stage for fitting out, pictures and further build plan soon.

Excellent weekend at the Harvey Hadden show, plenty of time to sit down and get this build up and running. OK, the scenario ... the outside broadcast team from Salford City Radio have been asked to take the van and have an afternoon interviewing one of the rowing athletes down at the Salford Quay's. Well, the team got there but something has happened and the van has sort of failed to stop whilst reversing toward the training area, and it involves one of the athletes and his canoe ... Oooooooooooo eck! ... pics when I've downloaded them from the camera.

First of all a little about the build. As you know the theme this year is the Olympics and I chose to build an outside broadcast vehicle. With that said, my sisters partner Joe Barnwell helps to run Salford City Radio, a community radio station covering the Salford area. Joe has always been interested in my little hobby and even got me live in the studio one day talking about Wallace & Gromit. So Joe, this build is for you matey, after it's been seen at SMW in November, it will belong to you and the station, I believe it's going to be auctioned at some point towards the Olympics festivities. There is a logo which will appear on the side of the van in due course, but for now, here's the shell of your outside broadcast van ... ... and the area available for the outside broadcast bits and pieces ... I now have to decide how to place the van and a few surprise items on the diorama, more on the base and what's coming will be revealed just as soon as I can build it. But for now, this is the basis for your character Joe ...
