With the W&G kits getting harder to find and following on from a discussion at Newark between Paul, Nick, and myself, looking at a theme for a "SENSIBLE" build alongside the caravanning and camping theme similar to the bedford builds this year which I believe will keep running next year. One idea was proposed and on the journey home I put a bit more thought into it and came up with a title of "De-mobbed". Basically the idea is to take a military subject land, sea, or air and build it into one of it's civilian uses after it left military service. So I now put this proposal to the floor, obviously rules will be discussed over a nice cup of tea ready for a start after Telford.

I like this idea, lots of scope for ex military stuff. Have you thought about a period ... 50's / 60's or later?

I wasn't really thinking of a specific time period as military surplus is available right up to the present day and the models could be displayed as a time line. But if people put some ideas forward I will use them when the rules are agreed and the build can begin.

Count me in! I have an idea for a build using the KFS Bedford MK that could be 70s/80s based, although knowing my build rate, 12 months may not be long enough!!

Sounds good to me. I am close to finishing a KFS Bedford MK as a snowplough/gritter, and I have plans for their forthcoming AEC Matador. The KFS website even expresses the hope that many AEC's will become the subjects of conversions.

Hmmm! the Italeri DUKW converted to something I've been contemplating for some time, the DUKW's used on Southport sands when I was a child. There is or course the KFS Bedford MK, but that's got to be a very special build and thought about long and hard.

Gromit: There were a couple of DUKW's on Cleethorpes beach when I was a lad, too. As for converting KFS kits, it's best not to think about it at all: just go for it.

just been watching an old film, which has given me an idea for this build, unfortunately i'd need a wallace, a gromit and a bitzer figure.

Pat: All my childhood holidays were in Cleethorpes. I never got a ride in the DUKW's, but I did have a flight in an Auster off the beach. It was piloted by Jim Crampton, who later went on to found Air Anglia. As my treat was in 1955, I wonder if the Auster was ex-military (back to the topic). Gromit: sorry, I didn't mean that you shouldn't carefully plan your models. I was thinking of the trepidation before hacking at an expensive high-quality kit. But if you don't go for it, you won't realise the dream.

That's OK Malc, no offence taken. I have the MK and I'm searching for a suitable conversion for it, I may even purchase the TK.
