Build rules for the 2013 build which will be an 'Open' build ...
Base Sizes - the base size normally stipulated is 16" x 12" and I don't think this is unreasonable and should be the maximum base size allowed, this should give everyone a reasonable amount of leeway in their builds. There have been previous comments about height restriction, well, apart from foliage used as a backdrop, I doubt that anyone will be planning anything taller than 12", so let's be sensible eh?
Vehicles - As usual I'd like to suggest the use of the Airfix 'Aardman' kits once again which are the A35 van, Landrover, Tractor, Motorcycle and Airplane.
Figures - Any of the Airfix 'Aardman' figures may be used either as depicted in the kit or converted.
How many entries per member? - I'm going to limit the builds to two per member, there are a couple of reasons for this decision. The main reason is the longevity of the SIG. We've become known for our portrayal of the Airfix 'Aardman' series of models and they're fast becoming scarce. I'm lucky enough to have a reasonable stash of these kits but even that is limited. So, limiting the builds is one way of ensuring that we have sufficient kits for future builds.
We also need to diversify. We've had the Bedford build which was popular and an alternative build may be a way to bring new members into the SIG, not everyone wants to build the 'Aardman' kits but they like the idea of the 'Beyond the box' theme. With this in mind, we will have a diversity build for 2013 and hopefully we can split the display space accordingly. Pat and Fatty had an idea for a build and that was 'Military vehicles converted to Civilian use' and think that's a superb idea.
So, there you have it. Start date for the build is December 25th 2012, closing date for the build will be SMW 2013.
I'm going to resurrect at least one build for 2013 maybe 2, we'll just have to see what time I have?
